A Longs man was convicted Friday, Feb. 14, and sentenced to life in prison in the 2022 killing of a 55-year-old woman, according to the 15th Circuit Solicitor鈥檚 Office.

Walter Worriax, 42, of Longs, was convicted Friday night of murder following a trial that began Monday, said Nancy Livesay, the violent crimes assistant solicitor. Livesay prosecuted the case with Monica Reece, an assistant solicitor, prosecuted the case for the 15 th Circuit Solicitor鈥檚 Office.

Judge Benjamin H. Culbertson sentenced Worriax to life in prison.

Worriax is not eligible for parole.

The victim, Pamela Vereen, was found stabbed to death on Feb. 4, 2022, at her home along Bombing Range Road in Longs.

鈥淒uring the investigation, a series of Worriax鈥檚 DNA was found within the crime scene, and ultimately determined him to be Vereen鈥檚 killer,鈥 the solicitor鈥檚 office said in a release.

鈥淭his was a particularly heinous and violent crime and we hope that this verdict gives Ms. Vereen鈥檚 family some measure of closure,鈥 Reece said. 鈥淲e are thankful for the hard work of the Horry County Police Department, along with the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division SLED, as they were instrumental in prosecuting this case.鈥
