A Myrtle Beach man was sentenced to more than three years in federal prison after pleading guilty to wire fraud and filing a false tax return, the U.S. District Attorney’s Office of South Carolina announced in a press release.
Troy Benjamin Bittner, 55, was the general manager of the Carolina Pines RV Resort in Conway. Prosecutors and investigators say that from Nov. 2020 to Dec. 2021, Bittner generated more than $828,000 in customer refunds that weren’t authorized by guests. He then wired the money to his personal bank accounts, the release states. The release also states Bittner stole cash from the business’ cloud-based point of sale system. Bittner also under-reported his 2020 and 2021 tax returns, avoiding payment of $281,727.
In total, more than $1.2 million was defrauded, the release said, and U.S. District Judge Joseph Dawson, III ordered Bittner to pay the full amount in restitution. He was also sentenced to 37 months in federal prison, which will be followed by three years of court-ordered supervision.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Secret Service, IRS Criminal Investigation, U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the FBI Columbia Field Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lauren Hummel is prosecuting the case.

Too bad for Troy that his name isn't Hunter Biden.
