UPDATE: International Drive has reopened as of Wednesday, county officials said.

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources plans to perform controlled burns near International Drive, which will temporarily close a portion of the road from Monday, Feb. 26, through Friday, March 1, according to a news release from Horry County Government.

The closure is expected to go into effect after 8 a.m. Monday, and reopen Friday evening.聽This burn will temporarily close International Drive to all traffic from S.C. Highway 90 to Ocean Bay Elementary School.

This schedule is based on the most current weather forecast and is subject to change, the release states.

Prescribed burns are set intentionally to help manage forests and to prevent uncontrolled forest fires. The controlled burn will reduce the accumulation of flammable fuels on the forest floor under SCDNR鈥檚 planned land management program.

Law enforcement will be enforcing the road closure, according to Horry County officials.

Access to the Horry County Solid Waste Recycling Facility will remain open but only from SC Highway 90.

"Please plan your travel accordingly," the release states. "Alternate routes include US Highway 501 and SC Highway 22."
