The St. Andrew鈥檚 Point Quest Junior tournament was held Jan. 22-24 at the St. Andrew鈥檚 Parks & Playground Center in Charleston. This Level 3 sanctioned event had 144 players including 12 local juniors.

Their results were:

鈥 Boy鈥檚 10 Singles: No. 1 seed David Raynor won his first match 4-0, 4-0 over a Mount Pleasant player to reach the finals where he won 4-2, 4-0 over another player from Mount Pleasant to take the title. Jordan Mercado lost 4-0, 4-0 to a player from Mount Pleasant. In the consolation, Mercado won 4-0, 4-0 over a Charleston player to reach the finals where he won 4-1, 4-1 over a player from the Isle of Palms.

鈥 In the Boy鈥檚 10 Doubles, David Raynor/Jordan Mercado defeated a Mount Pleasant team 6-2 in the finals.聽

鈥 Boy鈥檚 12 Singles: No. 1 seed Brandon Mercado won his first match 4-0, 4-1 over a player from Moncks Corner and then lost 6-4, 6-4 to the No. 1 seed from Lexington. Jude Wilkey won his first round 4-0, 4-0 over a player from Daniel Island and then he won 4-0, 4-2 over the No. 4 seed from Mount Pleasant. In the semifinals, Wilkey lost 6-3, 6-0 to the No. 2 seed from Daniel Island.

鈥 In the Boy鈥檚 12 Doubles, Brandon Mercado and his Daniel Island partner won their first round 6-1 over Jude Wilkey and his Beaufort partner and then Mercado/partner won 8-3 over a Moncks Corner/ Mount Pleasant team to reach the finals where they lost 8-4 to an Elgin/Lexington team. 聽

鈥 Boy鈥檚 16 Singles: Joshua Wallen lost his first match 4-2, 4-0 to the No. 4 seed from Daniel Island. In the consolation, Wallen won 4-1, 4-1 over a player from Toronto, Ontario, and then won 6-0, 6-0 over a player from Mount Pleasant to reach the finals where he withdrew after the first set due to injury after being down 6-0 to the No. 1 seed from Charleston. 聽聽聽聽聽

鈥 In the Boy鈥檚 16 Doubles, Joshua Wallen and his Folly Beach partner lost in the first round 6-0 to a team from Daniel Island.

鈥 Girl鈥檚 10鈥檚 Singles: No. 2 seed Olivia Bull won her first round 4-0, 4-1 over Anna Roof and then won 4-1, 4-0 over the No. 3 seed from Charleston to reach the finals where Bull won 6-2, 6-1 over the No. 4 seed from Charleston to win the championship.

After Anna Roof lost to Bull in the second round she dropped to the consolation where she won 4-2, 4-2 over a Beaufort player to advance to the finals and played Elizabeth Raynor with Roof winning 2-4, 4-2, (7-2) to claim the title. Earlier in the first round of the main draw Elizabeth Raynor lost 4-1, 4-0 to a player from Mount Pleasant. 聽

鈥 In the Girl鈥檚 10 Doubles, Olivia Bull/Anna Roof won their first match 6-2 over Elizabeth Raynor and her Beaufort partner to advance to the finals where they won 6-4 over a Charleston team to claim the title. 聽

鈥 Girl鈥檚 12 Singles Green Dot: Brooke Rogers won 4-0, 4-0 over a Mount Pleasant player and then won 4-0, 4-0 over the No. 3 seed from the Isle of Palms. Next, she upset the No. 1 seed from Beaufort 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the finals where Rogers won 6-1, 6-3 over the No. 2 seed from Daniel Island to win the championship. No. 4 seed Mia Cabildo advanced to the semifinals where she lost 6-4, 6-4 to the No. 2 seed from Daniel Island. In the consolation, Mia Cabildo won 6-0, 7-5 over a Charleston player to advance to the finals where she won 7-5, 6-3 over the No. 3 seed from the Isle of Palms to capture the title.聽

Cassidy Cocca won her first round 4-0, 4-1 over a Charleston player and then lost 1-4, 4-2, (7-3) to the No. 2 seed from Sullivans Island.聽聽

鈥 In the Girl鈥檚 12 Doubles, Mia Cabildo/Brooke Rogers lost in the first round 6-2 to a team from Columbia/ Daniel Island.聽聽聽

鈥 Girl鈥檚 16 Singles: No. 3 seed Hitomi Kobayashi lost in the first round 4-0, 4-1 to a player from Hilton Head Island. In the consolation, Kobayashi lost 4-0, 5-3 to a player from Mount Pleasant.

Lester鈥檚 hat trick

Richard 鈥淒ickie鈥 Lester has won the last three consecutive Level 1 South Carolina State Closed Clay Court Championships in the Men鈥檚 70 Doubles with three different partners held at the Litchfield Racquet Club in Pawleys Island.聽

In 2013, Lester won the clay court championship with John Mack; in 2014, he won with John Mitchell from John鈥檚 Island and in 2015, he won with Paul Feuerstein from Blythewood.

Lester began playing tennis in his mid-30s and joined a group of players at the Grand Dunes made up with John Mack, Sandy Baird, Bill Davis and George Willis. They played mostly at a high 4.5 NTRP level and only in the last few years have they dropped to a 4.0 level. 聽聽

Prestwick news

Prestwick Tennis Club will be holding a Welcoming Social on Saturday, Jan. 30 from 11 a.m. 鈥 3 p.m. for all members and non-members. There will be a tennis clinic provided and refreshments will be served. Also, there will be a special membership drive waiving the $200 initiation fee.

75 & Over Championship

For the first time in its 36-year-old history, there will be a USTA South Carolina League State Championship for the 75 & Over players. Before, this age division was just a championship within their own league. But starting in 2016 there will be a USTA South Carolina 75 & Over Invitational Championship held Nov. 3-5 on Hilton Head Island. 聽聽

MBTC Challenger

The City of Myrtle Beach Junior Challenger will be held March 4-6 at the City of Myrtle Beach Tennis Center. This Level 4 sanctioned events offers singles and doubles for all juniors up to 18 years old.

Entry fee is $38.13 for first event and $8 for second event for juniors 12 to 18 years old and $8 for additional event. Boys and girls 10 and under are $28 for first event and $8 for second event. Deadline is Feb. 29.

The A. Foster McKissick Tennis Tournament will be held March 10-13 at the Litchfield Racquet Club in Pawleys Island. This Level 2 sanctioned tournament will offer singles, doubles and mixed events.
