Conway Medical Center on Tuesday, Dec. 31, said it has finalized a new three-year agreement with UnitedHealthcare to maintain in-network access to CMC's services.

Had the two not come to an agreement, the number of potentially impacted patients would have been close to 10,000 patients between all UHC products, CMC spokesperson said.

"This agreement covers all UHC plans, so you can continue receiving the exceptional care you expect from CMC without any disruption," the hospital system said in a release.

This means UHC insurance members will receive continued in-network access to all CMC services without disruption to their care, no changes to their current benefits, and business as usual for all appointments and procedures, CMC said.

CMC Spokesperson Allyson Floyd said UHC patients were "understandably concerned" and had been reaching out to the hospital.

"Most of the patients we spoke with were very understanding due to the reasonableness of our request to bring our reimbursement rates from UHC up closer to market standards," she said.

"As a nonprofit hospital, CMC works diligently to ensure we protect our community's access to affordable healthcare," Floyd said. "This negotiation was necessary to bring reimbursement rates up closer to market standards. As a nonprofit, our mission is to reinvest back into our community and our hospital to continue the high-quality healthcare we have provided for nearly 100 years to Horry County. It is very routine for managed care agreements to be anywhere from 3 to 5 years. We are currently in-network with all major payers in our market with terms of varied length."
