One woman is dead and another is hospitalized after a shooting on Walnut Street near the Bojangles restaurant in downtown Loris on Wednesday, Aug. 7.

A female suspect is in custody in North Carolina in connection with the incident, and extradition efforts are underway, Loris Police Chief Gary Buley reported. He said a murder charge will be sought.

Kenasia Martin, a 22-year-old from Greensboro, North Carolina, died of injuries sustained in the shooting, Horry County Deputy Coroner Michelle McSpadden said.

The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m., and Loris police quickly developed a lead and put out an all-points-bulletin. The suspect was arrested in nearby Columbus County about 90 minutes after the shooting.

One of the victims died, and the other is hospitalized with major, but not critical, injuries, the police chief said.

Buley said the last murder in the city was about 18 months ago.
